I use a roho-style air cushion and in peak summer the heat and sweat build-up is unbearable, and I have had two skin scares because of it.
What are people using in hot and humid weather? Gel, foam, hybrid? Any covers that help with airflow without reducing pressure protection?
Hybrid cushion — gel-over-foam — with a spacer-mesh cover was the fix for me in Delhi summers. Air cushions insulate, which is exactly wrong in 43°C.
Two cheap things that helped as much as the cushion itself:
- A spacer mesh (3D air mesh) cover instead of the stock vinyl one. Vinyl traps everything.
- Cotton, not synthetic, in whatever you wear over it.
One warning: do not switch cushions and then skip your skin checks for the first fortnight. A new cushion redistributes pressure to places your skin is not used to.
